Lake Guntersville Residence
Challenges:
NVP was tasked with designing a unique and distinctive vacation residence for a young family.
Solutions:
Drawing from the extraordinary views from the site, the house features interconnected interior and exterior spaces that are organized around a central observation tower.
Years earlier Nola | Van Peursem designed the family’s “city house,” a classical style structure in Huntsville’s Twickenham Historic District. The family’s lakeside retreat demanded a more relaxed and casual environment. The house is located on a visually prominent peninsula on Guntersville Lake, located midway between Scottsboro and Guntersville, Alabama.
The lake was created in the 1930s by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Its shores are now dotted by numerous vacation houses, most lacking in architectural distinction. The tower at the center of the house offers 360-degree views of the lake and serves as a landmark for recreational boaters.
