NVP Named Exemplary AXP Friendly
A Comprehensive Experience
Nola | Van Peursem Architects has been named an Exemplary AXP Friendly firm. To have this distinction, a firm must prove that it is a safe and nurturing place for young architects, giving them experience that connects what they've learned to what they can do.
"You learn stuff by actually doing tasks, you don’t just get busy work, you get real world things to work on, in programs and using different tools," says Lewis Wightman, an intern from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo.
Something else that Nola | Van Peursem offers is a guided experience and a comfortable working environment. George Bravo, an intern from Auburn University, says, "The open line of communication especially with the partners is unique. When I was asking my other friends who are interning elsewhere, they usually don’t work directly with principal architects."
Here is George, a student from Auburn University, working with Rob on the A&M Student Center.
Fostering Knowledge
Nola | Van Peursem works hard to create an inviting environment where interns and employees feel as though they learn from each other.
On the subject of his interview, this is what George had to say: "Automatically, it wasn’t necessarily an interview per se, it was more of a conversation at first, which I really enjoyed. I immediately felt connected with Rob." This atmosphere is what really separates Nola | Van Peursem from the rest.
To describe his intern experience working with employees, Lewis said, "...it’s like a back and forth of them teaching us stuff and us teaching them stuff or bringing up things that they might not have thought of."
Even more than interns learning from employees and vice versa, as an Exemplary AXP Friendly firm, interns often come back, some even as new employees, such as Laura Trenkle, an architect currently working at Nola | Van Peursem.
From first time interns to people looking for a new experience, anyone should consider Nola | Van Peursem, for it's a wonderful place to practice skills and learn from others.
