Madison County Airport Terminal
Challenges:
Create a distinctive passenger terminal for a small regional airport, accommodating areas for passenger waiting, administration, corporate meetings, flight instruction and a pilot lounge.
Solutions:
The building’s distinctive profile, and the liberal use of brick and glass, makes it clearly visible and distinguishable in a sea of metal industrial buildings and aircraft hangars.
The new Terminal is the centerpiece of the rapidly growing Madison County Executive Airport complex. The Terminal was conceived to attract private aviation activities to the area and to provide an alternative to Huntsville International Airport. The building serves as an entrance and exit portal for the city’s many business visitors who rely on corporate aviation. The building’s distinctive profile, and the liberal use of brick and glass, make it visible and distinguishable in a sea of metal industrial buildings and aircraft hangars. The vaulted clerestory that caps the passenger waiting area emphasizes a view of the sky from within. The detailing of the exposed structure of the clerestory and the entrance canopy is evocative of aircraft construction and flight.
